Cross-renoHome Project: 4th International EPAH Conference in Barcelona: A Path Towards Reducing Energy Poverty

The 4th International EPAH Conference in Barcelona, titled “Changing Course: Paving the Way for Energy Poverty Alleviation,” emphasized the importance of unity and inclusiveness in the fight against energy poverty across Europe. With 248 participants attending in person and 208 online, the event brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including local authorities, EU institutions, and civil society organizations, to promote a fair energy transition.

One of the key focuses of the conference was the cross-renoHome project (a LIFE project), which stood out as a major initiative during one of the workshops titled “One-Stop Shops for the Inclusion of Vulnerable Consumers in the Energy Transition.” This session highlighted successful practices in reaching energy-poor citizens through OSS (One-Stop Shops) for energy renovation. Anamari Majdandžić from the Society for Sustainable Development Design (DOOR) discussed the challenges they faced, such as limited interest despite offering 100% funding for energy renovation to energy-poor households. José Pablo Delgado from EuroVértice emphasized the need for collaboration with social services to engage these groups effectively. Cross-renoHome, along with other initiatives like LIFE ReHABITA, served as a model for local authorities and organizations seeking to ensure that the energy transition includes those at the greatest risk of energy poverty.

Throughout the conference, various topics were discussed, ranging from gender perspectives on energy needs to the innovative role of artificial intelligence in vulnerability assessments. However, the most prominent highlights were the concrete examples of best practices from projects like cross-renoHome and LIFE ReHABITA, which demonstrated how to effectively support marginalized communities. The focus was on leveraging strategic alliances and practical tools to ensure that energy transition initiatives reach those who need them the most.

With the support of the EPAH consortium, stakeholders reaffirmed the importance of a strong network that enables the exchange of insights, best practices, and technical assistance. In conclusion, the conference reinforced the message that joint efforts, like projects such as cross-renoHome, are crucial to ensuring that no one is left behind in Europe’s mission to reduce energy poverty.
