As part of the crOss renoHome project, the Society for Sustainable Development Design (DOOR) delivered training for energy advisors aimed at employees of the City of Zagreb. The training was led by Anamari Majdandžić from DOOR and took place at the Zagreb Energy Centre.
The aim of the training was to equip City of Zagreb employees with the knowledge and practical skills needed to provide citizens with high-quality information and advice on energy efficiency, opportunities to reduce energy consumption, and ways to improve the energy performance of their homes.
What Did the Training Cover?
The training programme covered several key areas essential for effective energy advising:
-
Fundamentals of Energy Efficiency – understanding building energy performance classes, energy consumption, and opportunities for energy savings in households.
-
Energy Advisory Skills – identifying citizens’ needs and providing clear, accessible, and practical information tailored to their individual circumstances and capabilities.
-
Energy Renovation Measures – exploring opportunities to improve energy efficiency through thermal insulation, window and door replacement, heating system upgrades, and the use of renewable energy sources.
-
Funding Opportunities – providing information on available grants, financial support schemes, and co-financing options for energy renovation measures.
Strengthening the competencies of employees who work directly with citizens is an important step towards making information on energy renovation more accessible and improving its quality. Trained energy advisors can help citizens better understand their options, make informed decisions, and identify measures to reduce energy costs and improve housing quality.
These activities also contribute to tackling energy poverty by enabling citizens to access information more easily about measures and financial support schemes that can help reduce their energy costs.
As an additional resource to support energy advisors in their work, the Energy Advisor Handbook has been developed, providing useful information and practical guidance for advising citizens.
Through the crOss renoHome project, DOOR continues to contribute to strengthening local capacities for the energy transition, promoting knowledge sharing, cooperation with public institutions, and the development of accessible solutions that make it easier for citizens to move towards more energy-efficient homes.
