Križevci Citizen Energy Projects Presented in Sarajevo as an Example of Good Practice

The manager of the energy cooperative KLIK, Hrvoje Seleš, participated on December 10, 2025, in the fourth regional conference “Citizen Energy Communities – People and Environment Before Profit,” held in Sarajevo. The conference was organized by the RESET Center for Sustainable Energy Transition together with the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Sarajevo and Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Belgrade foundations.

Seleš took part in the panel “Local Citizen Energy Initiatives,” where he presented the citizen energy projects from Križevci, which have been recognized as some of the most successful in the region. He emphasized that these projects demonstrate how citizen-driven initiatives can successfully grow and bring tangible benefits to the local community. The Križevci projects were also highlighted as models that many communities across the region could successfully replicate.

One example of good practice is the OSS, which was established as part of the crOss RenoHome project.

The panel was moderated by Tanja Popovicki from the Energy Transition Platform (PET). Alongside Seleš, the discussion included Darko Knezović from the City of Mostar, Džemal Zahirović from Hasan Kikić Primary School in Gračanica, and Rastislav Kragić from the Novi Beograd Housing Community.

The conference brought together numerous energy experts from the private and public sectors as well as academia. Panel participants included representatives from the RES Foundation, the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Sarajevo, the national power utility, and the Center for Energy and Ecology.

Discussions during the conference were very lively, interactive, and constructive, attracting significant interest from citizens and the media in Sarajevo. This confirmed the growing public interest in the development of citizen energy and energy communities in the region.
